According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Premier League Champions Manchester City have beaten Brighton & Hove Albion and a few German clubs to crack a deal with New York City FC starlet Christian McFarlane.
Who is Christian McFarlane?
Christian McFarlane is one of the highly rated talents available in the USA. He came through the ranks of New York City Academy and was handed his first professional contract in 2021. He then went on to make his senior team debut in 2022 against Inter Miami.
McFarlane hasn’t cemented his spot in the senior team yet. He appeared in four games for them last season, where he managed to maintain a passing accuracy of over 85%. Apart from this, he played six games for the New York City FC II.
The Englishman was initially a winger but he was tested on multiple positions. At present, he plays as a left full-back. He is known for his sheer pace, quick adaptability, and dribbling skills. He is good in one-on-one situations due to his good physicality.
Christian McFarlane will be the second MLS player to don a Manchester City jersey
Brighton & Hove Albion and a few other German clubs tried to lure away Christian McFarlane from New York City FC but they failed to do so. Manchester City, on the other hand, have done the job with the player also keen on joining Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens have a proven record of nourishing the young talents well. They help the youngsters develop their game and transform into performers. Then the club either use them in their senior side or offloads them to raise funds.
The story with McFarlane will be no different. As a player, he will have the opportunity to enhance his game by learning from the best in the business. Better conditions and a more competitive atmosphere will sharpen his playing sense for sure.
