According to Sport via Sport Witness, Liverpool have set their eyes on Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. The Premier League club have even established contact with the player’s camp to enquire about the possible summer move.
Andriy Lunin’s breakthrough season
Andriy Lunin signed for Real Madrid from Zorya Luhansk in the summer of 2018. He was then sent on multiple loan terms to develop his game further. However, this has been a breakthrough season for him while playing for the Whites.
Due to Thibaut Courtois’ injury and loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga’s dismal form, Lunin got the opportunity to feature between the sticks. Fair to say, he grabbed the chance with both hands and performed excellently well. He featured in 31 games and managed to keep 12 clean sheets while conceding 32 goals.
The Ukranian stopper surprised everyone with quick reflexes and strong hands. He is capable of blocking various types of dangers. More importantly, he seemed confident and calm under pressure. No doubt, he is a top-quality goalkeeper and can play for any club in the world.
Andriy Lunin wants to play more
Liverpool are in the race to sign a new goalkeeper as Alisson Becker‘s future is uncertain due to interest from Saudi. Though the Brazilian has conveyed his will to stay at Anfield, things can change if a lucrative offer arrives. Hence, the club want to take no risk.
On the other hand, Caoimhin Kelleher is also destined to leave the club this summer. So it becomes a necessity to add a new stopper at their disposal. The Reds were linked to Bento and Justin Bijlow but their names have been demoted and Andriy Lunin is the priority pick.
The 25-year-old wants to be the primary choice but that seems tough in the presence of Thibaut Courtois. Hence, he will be ready to accept a switch if an exciting project involves him. With only one year left on his contract, even Real Madrid wish him to either extend his stay or go in the summer window.
