As per reports, Liverpool have identified PSV midfielder Joey Veerman as a viable target for the summer transfer window. Boss Arne Slot want to sign him as he believes the player will enhance the team’s overall performance next season.
Joey Veerman impressed at Euro 2024
Joey Veerman started his career at Volendam before moving to Heerenveen. He then finally signed for PSV in the winter of 2022. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a reliable name on the team sheet.
Veerman had a brilliant campaign last season, where he scored seven goals in 41 games. In addition to that, he had 19 assists to his name. He averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, and 0.8 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutchman is a technically sound player who is equally good in both attacking and defending. He can dribble, provide key passes, through balls, and also shoot from a distance. When it comes to providing defensive contributions, he is also strong at tackling and winning the ball back.
A backup for Wataru Endo?
It has been understood that Liverpool’s new boss Arne Slot wants a technical midfielder for the number 6 role. He wants to fit a name that can provide defensive solidity but can also contribute to attacking aspects whenever possible on the field.
The Reds have Wataru Endo operating in that position but his future has come under scrutiny following interest from multiple clubs. Hence, the English outfit wants to remain prepared for unforeseen situations and has made Joey Veerman a top target.
Veerman’s impressive performances recently speak for his talent. His arrival will surely help Liverpool control the game on the field. His presence will also allow Alexis Mac Allister to operate higher on the pitch and influence the game better. It will be interesting to see if the Reds would be able to crack an agreement with PSV for the 25-year-old or not.
