According to renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are in negotiations with Crystal Palace to sign defender Marc Guehi. Boss Arne Slot believe the player’s addition will improve the defensive unit and help them fight for trophies next season.
Marc Guehi is improving day by day
Marc Guehi is a Chelsea Academy product, who failed to establish himself there. Hence, he moved to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 in search of game-time. The move turned out to be correct as he finally started hitting the ground.
Guehi did a decent job for the English outfit this season, where he turned up 29 times. Though he got no goal to his name, he did provide an assist. He also averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 3.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The English international is a centre-back with great strength and passing abilities. He works in his position and remains calm and focused under pressure. Though he doesn’t have the ideal height for a defender, he does decent in the air.
A new parnter for Virgil Van Dijk?
Liverpool suffered in the backline last season and they need to fix the issue, especially after the departure of Joel Matip. While Ibrahima Konate cannot be relied on due to his fitness concerns, Joe Gomez is inconsistent with his performances. On the other hand, Jarell Quansah is too young to start the games.
Hence, the Reds must bring someone who can partner up with Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the defence. To fill the shoes, the club are eyeing a summer move for Marc Guehi. The defender had a decent season at the club level but emerged as a star performer for England at the Euro Cup 2024.
Guehi’s composure and strength will help Liverpool form a solid defensive line. As he is 24 years old, he can also serve at Anfield for many years to come. As reported, there are negotiations ongoing between the parties and let’s see what happens in the coming days.
