In a recent report, L’Equipe claimed that Everton have set their sights on Strasbourg youngster Habib Diarra. It has been stated that the Toffees are eyeing a move to bring the Senegalese attacker to Goodison Park this summer.
Diarra’s Impressive Rise In French Football
Diarra managed to catch the eye at times with his performances for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 last season when he put in a few productive displays in the final third. The Senegalese whizkid made 35 appearances for the French outfit in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net four times and earning a couple of assists in multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old was a decent contributor in the opponent’s half as he averaged 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 86.2% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Strasbourg will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to sign him on the cheap later this year.
Everton Have Set Their Sights On Diarra: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Diarra can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field.
The Senegalese sensation can also make some dangerous runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to prove his worth in English football.
Therefore, Everton would have to be patient with his progress before they can unlock the best out of the youngster. We can expect Diarra to add more firepower to Sean Dyche’s attack.
At 20, Diarra has the potential to be a future star in the Premier League as long as he continues to improve with each season. He would even help the Merseyside club cope with fixture congestion better.
Diarra is undoubtedly a prospect to look out for in the coming years, so Everton should step up their efforts to land him this summer.
