In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed that Everton are still keen on recruiting Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto. It has been stated that the Toffees are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Italian wide player.
Gnonto’s Impressive Run Of Form At Elland Road
Gnonto enjoyed a solid campaign at the West Yorkshire club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 20-year-old banged in nine goals and grabbed three assists in 44 matches for Leeds United last season in various competitions.
The Verbania-born talent was a real menace in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Elland Road will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Everton to get a deal done for him on the cheap later this year.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go For Gnonto?
Gnonto has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out in the wide areas. He has also got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field and can make a few driving runs with the ball up top.
The Italian talent can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He is primarily a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if asked to do so.
At 20, Gnonto has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Thus, Everton would be wise to go all out to bring him to Goodison Park before the end of this transfer window.
Gnonto has what it takes to help the Toffees steer clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League next season. Therefore, the Merseyside club would be wise to go for a player of his skill set this summer. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in top-flight football.
