In a recent report, L’Equipe mentioned that Everton are showing interest in Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Amir Richardson. It has been stated that the Toffees are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Moroccan talent later this year.
Richardson’s Solid Season In French Football Last Season
Richardson managed to put in a series of solid displays at the heart of Lyon’s midfield in the previous campaign. The 22-year-old made 28 appearances for the French outfit last season, netting three goals and grabbing one assist in various competitions.
The Moroccan sensation has offered decent protection for his teammates at the back as he averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.0 clearances per game in the Ligue 1. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from midfield after making 83.5% of his attempted passes in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to bring him to the Premier League on the cheap later this year.
What Will Richardson Bring To Everton?
Richardson is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Moroccan sensation is an accurate passer of the ball as well and has done well to prove himself. He would bring more bite and steel to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s midfield department. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting spot at the Merseyside club
At 22, Richardson has the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, the Toffees would be wise to go all out to recruit him before the end of this transfer window. The Moroccan midfield ace has got a lot of room for improvement and could grow into a future star at Goodison Park as long as he continues to mature as a footballer with each year.
However, Richardson would need some time to settle into the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Everton manage to bring him on board later this year.
