In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Everton are set to rival Leicester City for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo. It has been claimed that the Toffees are in the running to secure the services of the Brazilian midfield ace this summer.
Melo’s Impressive Loan Spell At Fiorentina
Melo had a decent loan spell at Fiorentina as he managed to put in a lot of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 27-year-old scored two goals and picked up four assists in 48 matches for the Italian club last season in multiple competitions.
The Brazilian talent caught the eye at times with his contributions at the heart of Fiorentina’s midfield based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.0 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A. He was even careful when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 92.1% in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Juventus will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Toffees would have to make a good offer if they want to lure Melo to Goodison Park this off-season.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Bring Melo On Board?
Melo is a solid tackler of the ball and can make the odd interception for his team in the middle of the park. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates up top.
The Brazilian sensation can still do a good job for his team if he can steer clear of injuries. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Liverpool but might struggle to adjust to the physical style of English football.
Melo would add more quality and depth to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s midfield department. He has what it takes to help the Toffees challenge across all fronts over the next few years. The Brazilian has got the experience and skill set to be a success story at Goodison Park in the short term.
At 27, Melo is entering his prime and could flourish if given a chance to prove his worth at the Merseyside club. All in all, Dyche should consider bringing him on board ahead of the new campaign.
