In a recent report, i mentioned that Everton are ready to step up their efforts to sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer. It has been revealed that the Toffees are eyeing a move to sign the Italian wide player who is keen on a move to the Merseyside club.
Gnonto’s Impressive Form In The EFL Championship Last Season
Gnonto enjoyed a decent campaign at the West Yorkshire club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 20-year-old played in 44 matches for Leeds last season, netting nine goals and grabbing three assists across multiple competitions.
The Italian sensation was a decent performer in the opposition half based on his average of 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Elland Road will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to sign him on the cheap in this transfer period.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Snap Gnonto Up This Summer?
Gnonto is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and can create the odd chance for others around him in the final third.
The Italian wing wizard can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
Gnonto is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-winger or as a centre-forward if told to do so by his manager. We can expect him to add more firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s attack.
At 20, Gnonto has the potential to be a world-class winger someday. Thus, he would be a great addition to the Merseyside club‘s squad in the long run. With all things considered, the Toffees should focus on going all out to snap Gnonto up this off-season.
