In a recent report, Planet Sport mentioned that Everton are ready to move in for Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees are prepared to launch a £22m move to land the Italian wing wizard this off-season.
Gnonto’s Decent Run Of Form At Leeds United
Gnonto experienced a promising campaign at Elland Road after he produced a handful of eye-catching displays for Whites on the offensive end of the field. The Italian talent found the back of the net nine times and picked up three assists in 44 appearances for the West Yorkshire club last season across multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old was a real handful for the opposition defenders as he averaged 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He was even accurate when distributing possession based on his pass completion rate of 83.6% in the English second tier (stats via whoscored).
Gnonto’s current contract at the English club will expire in the summer of 2027, so it would be difficult for the Toffees to snap him up on the cheap in this transfer window.
Should Everton Get Gnonto On Board?
Gnonto can use his quickness to get in behind the opponent’s backline and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create some meaningful openings for others around him up top.
The Verbania-born sensation mainly operates as a right-winger but can also play as a left-sided wide player or as a striker down the middle if told to do so. We can expect Gnonto to add more pace and goals to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s attack,
Gnonto has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting place at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons. At 20, he has the potential to be a future star at Goodison Park as long as he continues to develop with each year. All in all, the Toffees would be wise to go all out to get the Leeds United youngster on board before the start of the new campaign.
