In a recent report, TuttoJuve stated that Everton are facing tough competition for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo this summer. It has been mentioned that the Toffees would have to rival West Ham United, Crystal Palace and other clubs from Saudi Arabia in pursuit of the Brazilian talent this off-season.
Melo’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Melo had a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Brazilian talent made 48 appearances for Fiorentina last season, netting a couple of goals and grabbing four assists in multiple competitions.
The 27-year-old has caught the eye at times with his performances in the middle of the park as he averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.0 key passes per game in Serie A. Melo has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 92.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at his parent club Juventus will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Toffees to arrange a cut-price deal for him later this year.
Everton Are Facing Stiff Competition For Melo: Is He Worth The Fight?
Melo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make a few timely interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can engineer some inviting chances for his teammates up top.
We can expect him to bring more energy and dynamism to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s midfield department. However, frequent injuries have often hampered his progress in recent years. Plus, he might struggle to cope with the physical side and high intensity of English football, similar to how he did during his previous loan spell at Liverpool.
Still, Arthur would no doubt improve the quality of the Merseyside club‘s midfield department. He has what it takes to help the Toffees compete on all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Arthur would be well worth the fight but only if Everton can find a way to land him on the cheap in this summer transfer window.
