In a recent report, BBC Sport stated that Everton are among the clubs hoping to sign Hull City ace Jaden Philogene. It has been claimed that the Toffees would have to compete with Ipswich Town and Aston Villa in the race to land the English wide player this summer.
Philogene’s Impressive Form In the EFL Championship
Philogene had a decent campaign at the English club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the left flank. The 22-year-old netted 12 goals and picked up six assists in 33 appearances for Hull City last season across all competitions.
The London-born talent caught the eye with his performances in the opponent’s half as he averaged 2.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 3.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He was even excellent when distributing the ball in the final third based on his pass success rate of 82.8% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Hull City will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to snap him up on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.
Everton Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Sign Philogene: Is He Worth The Fight?
Philogene is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his team inside his half. He can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the pitch. The English talent is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger if asked to do so.
We can expect Philogene to add more firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s frontline. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at Goodison Park in the future.
Therefore, Philogene would be well worth the fight, so the Toffees would be wise to try everything they can to lure him to Merseyside before the end of this summer transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether Philogene can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
