According to reputed German journalist Patrick Berger, Chelsea and Liverpool are the two major European clubs that are interested in signing rising attacker Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Karim Adeyemi’s struggle so far
Karim Adeyemi arrived at Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022. He came with a lot of expectations, which he has somewhere failed to meet. He hasn’t been clinical enough in the final third, affecting his numbers.
Adeyemi featured in 34 games this season, netting only five times apart from two assists. He averaged 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 0.9 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). Despite this fact, his value in the market continues to be high.
The German attacker dominantly plays on the left wing but can also feature in other advanced positions. He likes to dribble or use his speed to trick the defenders. His finishing is decent but he needs to work on his consistency.
Should Chelsea sign Karim Adeyemi?
Chelsea’s alleged interest in Karim Adeyemi is understandable as the club are looking out for wingers. The likes of Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk have been underperforming. Their inconsistent displays haven’t helped the team enough.
Hence, signing a fresh player who can play in wide areas remains a priority for the Blues. Having said that, Adeyemi can be a really good fit at Stamford Bridge. He isn’t a bad player but it’s just that he hasn’t been able to adapt to his new home.
However, the 22-year-old still has a lot of room to improve and emerge as an elite winger. His arrival will surely help Chelsea in the final third. When talked about the finances, his signing should cost somewhere around €30 million. The money shouldn’t be a big issue for the English giants who are also running behind Desire Doue.
