Chelsea are making quick moves as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. In the latest move, the Premier League club have made Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen their top priority, according to Football Insider.
Filip Jorgensen is known for his ball-playing ability
Filip Jorgensen joined Villarreal’s youth setup in 2017 and has been associated with them since then. His impressive performances earned him a spot in the senior side in 2020. As he got more opportunities in the coming years, he made full use of them.
Jorgensen has emerged as a notable name in La Liga over the past couple of seasons. He played in 37 games last season, where he conceded 64 goals. He also managed to keep six clean sheets in the process.
The Danish goalkeeper is an excellent shot-stopper who remains concentrated throughout the 90 minutes. With quick reflexes and strong hands, he is a valuable pick in the side. However, it’s his ball-playing ability that stands out.
Too many goalkeeping options for Chelsea
Chelsea’s new boss Enzo Maresca wants a ball-playing goalkeeping and hence, the pursuit of Filip Jorgensen is being done. Though both Robert Sanchez and Djorde Petrovic have that quality, one of the two will depart if Jorgensen arrives this summer.
Earlier, Maresca preferred Sanchez over Patrovic and he is likely to have the same opinion going forward. The Spanish shot-stopper could be the preferred goalkeeper next season with Jorgensen being a close competitor to him.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea have placed a bid worth €20 million for Jorgensen. Interesting, the player is keen on making a switch too. Now it depends upon Villarreal to accept the bid or ask for a counter price.
The Blues were linked to Andriy Lunin too, who is expected to leave Real Madrid. However, as the deal for Jorgensen is advancing, the English outfit has turned off other names for now.
