In a recent report, journalist Alex Pintanel mentioned that Barcelona have identified Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich as a main target. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to bring the German international to the Nou Camp this summer.
Kimmich’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga Last Season
Kimmich experienced a decent campaign at the German club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Bundesliga. The German international found the back of the net twice and earned ten assists in 43 matches for Bayern Munich last season across various competitions.
The 29-year-old has been a reliable performer for the Bavarian club based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots and 2.6 key passes per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball after making 91.3% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of next season which could give Barcelona a chance to land him on the cheap later this summer.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Go For Kimmich?
Kimmich loves a tackle and can make the odd interception for his team when he is playing well on the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The German sensation can even create a few decent plays for his teammates in the final third. He mainly operates as a right-back but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if needed.
We can expect him to add more quality to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s first XI. He would even help the Catalan giants compete for some major honours over the next few years.
At 29, Kimmich is playing in his prime which makes him a good option for Barca to pursue in this summer transfer period. Thus, it makes sense for Flick to try and go for him ahead of the new campaign. However, it remains to be seen whether the German talent can make a smooth transition to life at the Nou Camp if Barca manage to sign him later this year.
