In a recent tweet, German journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Barcelona have concrete interest in Hull City winger Jaden Philogene this summer. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club have tabled a one-year loan offer with an obligation to buy the English wide player.
Philogene’s Impressive Run Of Form In The EFL Championship
Philogene managed to impress with his performances for Hull in the previous campaign when he put in a string of decent displays on the left side of their attack. The 22-year-old scored 12 goals and picked up six assists in 33 matches for the English outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The London-born talent has given a good account of himself on the left wing based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball as he made 82.8% of his attempted passes in the English second division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it makes sense for Barcelona to get a loan deal done for him this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Recruit Philogene This Summer?
Philogene can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. The English talent is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-winger if told to do so by his manager.
We can expect Philogene to add more quality to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s attack in the long run. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team place at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 22, Philogene has the potential to become a future star in European football. Therefore, Flick would be wise to recruit him before the end of this summer transfer period. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form in Spanish football.
Philogene would be a great option for the Catalan club to pursue in the long run. However, Barcelona should only consider signing him if they can get him for a fair price this summer.
