In a recent tweet, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Barcelona are planning to launch a move for Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are eager to get a deal done for the Spain international in this transfer period.
Olmo’s Impressive Form For Both His Club And Country
Olmo enjoyed a decent campaign at the Red Bull Arena as he managed to put in a handful of influential displays for Leipzig in the final third. The Spanish talent participated in 25 matches for the German club last season, scoring eight goals and grabbing five assists across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old was a decent performer in the opposition half based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He was even careful when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 79.6% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2027. The Spaniard’s stock has gone up over the summer after he helped his country win the UEFA Euro 2024 recently. Thus, Barcelona would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Olmo before the end of this transfer window.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Get Olmo On Board?
Olmo can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from outside the opponent’s penalty box and has got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for others around him on the offensive third of the pitch.
The Spanish sensation is a great dribbler with the ball and can retain possession well for his team in the opposition half. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a winger on either flank if told to do so.
Olmo would inject more quality into Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s frontline. He has what it takes to help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours over the next few years. At 26, Olmo is about to enter the peak stage of his career which makes him a decent choice for Barca to consider this off-season. Therefore, Flick would be wise to try everything in his power to get the Spaniard on board this summer.
