In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are confident about landing Athletic Bilbao speedster Nico Williams. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are optimistic about acquiring the services of the Spain international this summer.
Williams’ Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Williams had a terrific campaign at the Spanish club as he produced a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Spanish sensation was involved in 37 matches for Barca last season, finding the back of the net eight times and securing 19 assists across various competitions.
The 21-year-old was a consistent performer on the left flank and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.8 shots, 1.5 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 79.2% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Athletic Bilbao will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Catalan club to land him in the summer.
What Will Williams Add To Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick’s Team?
Williams is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive third of the pitch.
The Spaniard has done well to add plenty of goals and assists to his game last season. Hence, we can expect him to bring a lot of firepower to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s frontline. Williams already knows La Liga well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Catalan club.
At 21, the Spain international has the potential to be a generational talent. Hence, he would be a massive signing for Barca if Flick can devise a way to bring him to the Nou Camp before the end of this transfer period.
Williams might even help the Catalan giants challenge for a lot of major silverware over the next decade, so Barcelona should go all out to bring him on board ahead of the new campaign.
