In a recent interview with Villa News, pundit Alan Hutton tipped Aston Villa to cash in on Moussa Diaby if they are offered a fee in the region of £55m for him this summer. Hutton said,
“It seems like every time I read about Aston Villa, something’s happening.
“Whether it be a signing, or they’re buying somebody back or they’re moving somebody on, there just always seems to be something at this moment in time.
“I think he had an in-and-out season and was a little bit inconsistent. I think there were definitely flashes there of brilliance and there were a lot of games where you didn’t see him as much as you would like to.
“I kind of compare it to how [Leon] Bailey was when he first arrived. He had a season like that and then kind of grew into the next season so I still believe there’s a lot more to come from him.
“That being said, if they were to get £55million for him (Diaby) I think they might take it and look to move him on.
“They’ve got a lot of options when it comes to wide players, I know he played in that number 10 role, but they have got a lot of options at this moment in time.
“If they could recoup all of that money and make a little bit more, then I think it’s a deal that might happen.”
Diaby’s Impressive Run Of Form At Villa Park Last Season
Diaby enjoyed a decent campaign at the West Midlands club after he put in a series of impressive performances for them in the final third. The French talent participated in 54 matches for the Villans last season, netting ten goals and grabbing nine assists across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old was a consistent performer in front of the opposition goal based on his average of 1.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 82.6% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Let Diaby Go?
Diaby is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a lot of decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
Diaby is one of the first names in Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s teamsheet. Hence, the Villans might be wise to keep hold of him beyond this summer as he could help them compete across all fronts in the coming years.
All in all, Aston Villa should not consider letting Diaby go this summer as he is an irreplaceable member of their match-day squad.
