In a recent print edition, AS (via Sport Witness) claimed that Aston Villa are still trying to recruit Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix. It has been mentioned that the Villans are eager to get a deal done for the Portugal international this summer.
Felix’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Nou Camp
Felix had a fruitful loan spell at Barcelona last season when he managed to put in a handful of eye-catching performances for them in La Liga. The Portuguese talent found the back of the net ten times and earned six assists in 44 matches for the Catalan club in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old was a reliable performer in front of the opponent’s goal as he averaged 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1,0 dribbles per game in La Liga football. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after completing 83.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Madrid club will expire in the summer of 2029. Hence, the Villans would have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting Felix later this year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Bring Felix On Board?
Felix is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range and has got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third.
The Portuguese wide player can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. However, he has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Felix to inject more firepower into Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the West Midlands club next season.
At 24, Felix has his best years ahead of him which makes him a solid option for the Villans to pursue this off-season. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at Villa Park.
