In a recent report, The Daily Mirror claimed that Aston Villa are set to re-sign Hull City winger Jaden Philogene this summer. It has been stated that the Villans are ready to activate the English wide player’s £18m transfer clause to bring him back to Villa Park this off-season.
Philogene’s Impressive Run Of Form In Premier League Football
Philogene enjoyed a solid campaign at the English club as he was responsible for producing a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old scored 12 goals and grabbed six assists in 33 appearances for Hull City last season in multiple competitions.
The London-born talent was a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after making 82.8% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Yorkshire club would expire in the summer of 2026. However, the Villans could sign him right now if they end up matching the player’s £18m transfer clause.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Bring Philogene Back To Villa Park?
Philogene is an energetic dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the opponent’s half.
However, only time will tell whether the English talent can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Aston Villa boss Unai Emery manages to lure him back to Villa Park in this summer transfer window.
At 22, Philogene has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday as long as he continues to improve with each year. Hence, it makes sense for the Villans to go all out to land him before the start of the new campaign. Emery would be the ideal man to oversee his development and get the best out of the English starlet in the future.
