In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Aston Villa are ready to launch a massive offer for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix this summer. It has been stated that the Villans are open to paying in excess of £50m to acquire the services of the Portugal international in this transfer period.
Felix’s Decent Form At The Nou Camp Last Season
Felix enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Barcelona last season when he put in a series of productive displays for the Catalan club in the final third. The Viseu-born talent banged in ten goals and grabbed six assists in 44 matches for Barca in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old was a decent performer in the opponent’s half as he averaged 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball after completing 83.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2029. Thus, the Villans would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Felix this off-season.
Will Felix Be A Good Signing For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Felix is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can use his quickness to get in behind the opponent’s backline. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and can create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third.
The Portugal international can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He mainly operates as a striker but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Felix to inject more quality and depth into Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s attack. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the West Midlands club in the coming seasons.
At 24, Felix has his peak years ahead of him. Hence, he would be a great, long-term signing for the Villans to pull off before the end of this summer transfer window.
