In a recent tweet, journalist Diego Pico stated that Aston Villa are keen on recruiting Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix. It has been claimed that the Villans are in the race to acquire the services of the Portuguese attacker this off-season.
Felix’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Nou Camp
Felix enjoyed a decent loan spell at Barcelona recently as he managed to produce a run of productive performances for them in the final third. The 24-year-old scored ten goals and grabbed six assists in 44 matches for the Catalan club last season in multiple competitions.
The Portuguese talent was a decent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the final third after making 83.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Atletico Madrid will expire in the summer of 2029. Therefore, Aston Villa would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Felix this summer.
What Will Felix Bring To Aston Villa?
Felix is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can be a hard man to stop when he is running on full swing in the opponent’s half. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to orchestrate a few inviting chances for his teammates in and around the opposition penalty area.
The Portugal international is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a centre-forward up top if needed. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Chelsea but might still need some time to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of English football if Aston Villa manage to bring him on board later this year.
We can expect Felix to bring more firepower to Unai Emery’s attack. He might even help the Villans compete across all fronts over the next few years. At 24, Felix will only improve with each season. Hence, it makes sense for the West Midlands club to go all out to bring him to Villa Park before the end of this transfer window.
