In a recent report, AS claimed that Aston Villa are among the clubs hoping to recruit Toluca winger Maximiliano Araujo this summer. It has been stated that the Villans would face competition in the form of Barcelona and Nottingham Forest in the race to land the Uruguayan talent this off-season.
Araujo’s Impressive Run Of Form In Mexican Football
The 24-year-old has proven himself to be a good performer in Mexican football as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive performances for Toluca in the final third. Araujo did well to score three goals and secure four assists in 36 matches for his current employers last season across all competitions.
The Montevideo-born talent has proved his worth at times with his offensive contributions last season but still has a lot to learn before he can taste success at the highest level.
His current contract at the Mexican side will run out at the end of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Villans to snap him up on the cheap this summer.
Is Araujo A Decent Fit For Aston Villa?
Araujo is a good dribbler with the ball and can make some driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Uruguayan sensation can contribute by scoring and creating some important goals for his team but needs to find a way to be more productive up top. We can expect Araujo to add more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s attack.
At 24, Araujo has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the West Midlands club’s needs this summer. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
However, there are some question marks over whether Araujo can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a player of Araujo’s skillset. Thus, Emery would be wise to get him on board soon.
