In a recent episode of the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, journalist Dean Jones tipped Arsenal to move in for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. Jones said,
“I still can’t shake the feeling that Chelsea or Arsenal will go in for him. It’s such a big moment to let pass you by when you have guaranteed goals staring you in the face. Osimhen is that man, but it sounds like he will be starting pre-season at Napoli.”
Osimhen’s Impressive Form In Serie A Last Season
Osimhen enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club recently as he managed to put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Lagos-born talent featured in 32 matches for Napoli last season, netting 17 goals and grabbing four assists in the process on all fronts.
The 25-year-old proved his worth in the opponent’s half by averaging 3.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession up top, based on his pass completion rate of 71% in Serie A football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Napoli will expire in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for the Gunners to snap Osimhen up on the cheap later this year.
Is Osimhen A Dream Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Osimhen is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates up top.
The Nigeria international is a strong runner with the ball but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play up top. We can expect him to add a lot of firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attack.
Osimhen has what it takes to help the Gunners compete for some major trophies over the next few years. Thus, he could prove to be a dream option for Arsenal to pursue in this summer transfer period. However, Osimhen might need some time to adjust to life in the Premier League if the Gunners manage to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.
