In a recent edition of the Daily Briefing, journalist Charles Watts mentioned that Arsenal are long-term admirers of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer. Watts said,
“It will be interesting to see what happens with Martin Zubimendi once the Euros comes to an end. His future will be decided one way or the other and we know Arsenal are long-term admirers.
“Getting him out of Real Sociedad won’t be easy, as he has suggested this himself given his love for the club, but I don’t think Arsenal have totally given up hope on that one yet.”
Zubimendi’s Impressive Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Zubimendi had a solid campaign at the Spanish club after he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. The 25-year-old scored four goals and grabbed one assist in 45 matches for Real Sociedad last season across all fronts.
The Spanish talent gave a good account of himself in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.4% in top-flight football. (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Move In For Zubimendi?
Zubimendi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The Spanish sensation can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well but might need some time to adapt to life in the Premier League if Arsenal manage to secure his services this summer.
We can expect Zubimendi to add more bite and steel to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s midfield department. He is good enough to help the Gunners challenge across all competitions over the next few years.
At 25, Zubimendi has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the North London club to consider this summer. Therefore, the Gunners would be wise to move in for the Spaniard in this transfer window.
