In a recent report, La Colina de Nervión stated that West Ham United consider Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri as their main target. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are facing competition in the form of Manchester United in the race to land the Moroccan centre-forward this summer.
En-Nesyri’s Impressive Form At Sevilla Last Season
En-Nesyri enjoyed an excellent campaign at the Andalusian club after he put in a string of impressive performances as the focal point of their attack. The 27-year-old banged in 20 goals and earned three assists in 41 appearances for Sevilla last season in multiple competitions.
The Moroccan talent led the line well as he averaged 2.2 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he lacks quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 65% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sevilla will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Hammers to sign him on a cut-price deal later this summer.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Move In For En-Nesyri?
En-Nesyri is proficient at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top but needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opponent’s half.
The Moroccan sensation can use his strong 1.92m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
We can expect him to bring more firepower to West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s frontline. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at the London Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 27, En-Nesyri is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Hammers to consider this off-season. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could help the East London club compete for a European spot in the Premier League next season.
