In a recent report, Tutto Juve mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur have identified Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana as a target. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the French midfield ace to the North London club this summer.
Fofana’s Impressive Form In French Football
Fofana caught the eye with his performances at the centre of Monaco’s midfield in the previous campaign. The 25-year-old featured in 32 matches for the French outfit last season, scoring four goals and grabbing four assists across all competitions.
The French midfield ace has proven himself to be a capable presence in the middle of the park based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.0 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 82.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Spurs could potentially land him on the cheap later this year.
Is Fofana A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur?
Fofana is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and can set up a few inviting chances for others around him in the final third.
The French talent can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well. Fofana mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or as a right-winger if asked to do so.
Fofana would undeniably enhance the quality of Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 25, Fofana has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good option for Spurs to consider in this transfer period. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
