In a recent report, i claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are facing tough competition for Lille striker Jonathan David this summer. It is understood that Spurs would have to rival Manchester United, West Ham United and Aston Villa in pursuit of the Canadian forward this off-season.
David’s Impressive Numbers In French Football
David had a productive campaign at the French club as he produced a handful of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 24-year-old found the back of the net on 26 occasions and picked up nine assists in 47 matches for Lille last season across all fronts.
The Canadian talent led the line relatively well for his team based on his average of 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lille will expire at the end of next season which could give Spurs a chance to recruit him on the cheap in this summer transfer period.
Tottenham Hotspur Are Facing Tough Competition For David: Is He Worth The Fight?
David can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a reliable finisher on the offensive end of the field. The Canadian sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates up top. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
However, only time will tell whether David can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Tottenham manage to get him on board this summer. Still, we can expect him to bring more firepower to Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack.
David has what it takes to secure a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season. He might even go on to form a productive partnership with Heung-min Son at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the next few years.
All in all, David would be well worth the fight, so Tottenham would be wise to step up their efforts to acquire his services before the end of this summer transfer window.
