In a recent report, TuttoJuve mentioned that Real Madrid are serious contenders for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori. It has been revealed that Los Blancos are hoping to beat Juventus in the race to land the Italy international this summer.
Calafiori’s Impressive Season In Serie A
Calafiori enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a handful of promising displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 22-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned five assists in 30 matches for Bologna last season across various competitions.
The Italy international deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per game in Serie A football. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 89.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Calafiori’s current contract at Bologna will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Madrid giants to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Calafiori Up?
Calafiori is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some important interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can also chip in by scoring and assisting his fair share of goals from the back.
The Italian sensation mainly operates as a central defender but can also serve as a left-back or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so. We can expect him to add more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence.
Calafiori is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons. At 22, the Roma-born talent has got a bright future ahead of him and could be a great signing for Los Blancos in the long run.
With all things considered, it makes sense for Ancelotti to go all out to snap Calafiori up before the end of this transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in La Liga if the Madrid giants can get him on board this summer.
