Real Madrid Are Optimistic About Landing This Ligue 1 Youngster: Decent Choice For Los Blancos?

In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid are optimistic about landing Lille youngster Leny Yoro this summer. It has been stated that Los Blancos have an agreement with the French centre-back but a move can only be finalised after Nacho’s departure from the Madrid club.

Yoro’s Impressive Form In French Football

Yoro enjoyed a decent season at the French club after putting in a string of impressive performances at the centre of their backline. The French talent featured in 44 matches for Lille in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net three times across multiple competitions.

The 18-year-old was a dominant presence on the defensive third of the field and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in the Ligue 1. He was even careful when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass success rate of 92.2% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Lille will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Is Yoro A Decent Choice For Real Madrid?

Yoro loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when required and excels at playing his way out from the back.

The French whizkid can even use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to settle into life in Spain if Real Madrid manage to get him on board this off-season.

We can expect Yoro to add more bite and steel to Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti’s defensive department. He has what it takes to serve a good, squad player in the Madrid club‘s squad next season.

At 18, Yoro has the potential to be a future star in European football. Hence, he would be a brilliant choice for Real Madrid to pursue before the end of this transfer window. However, Ancelotti needs to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the gifted defender.
