Premier League team Everton have made an official request for their final game to be played away from home next season. The Liverpool Echo mentioned that the Toffees have requested their final game of the next Premier League campaign to be played on the road.
The Toffees are set to leave Goodison Park at the end of next season and are expected to move to a new stadium on Liverpool’s waterfront. The Merseyside club has chosen to make their request to the Premier League so that the club can arrange for a grant send-off at Goodison Park
The final round of Premier League matches next season will take place at the same time on Sunday, May 25. This would have stolen the thunder of the Goodison farewell as other competing storylines on both ends of the Premier League would have overshadowed the occasion.
It also means the attention of most Premier League fans would have been split across multiple broadcasts which is a common feature on the final matchday. Everton want their final Goodison Park match to be a showpiece event.
Hence, the Toffees have reached out to the Premier League with a request to play away from home on the last day of next season. Their requests have reportedly been granted with Everton set to take on Newcastle United on the final weekend of the next Premier League campaign.
Meanwhile, their final game at Goodison Park will be against Southampton on the weekend of May 18. Sean Dyche’s men had to go through a tough campaign in the Premier League recently but managed to steer clear of the relegation zone.
The Everton fans would now hope that their players can have a better season at Goodison Park next term so that they can give the ground the farewell it deserves.
