Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has made a four-word response about Jack Grealish after his UEFA Euro 2024 snub with England recently. The Three Lions’ manager Gareth Southgate decided to exclude Grealish’s name from his 26-man England squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024.
The English playmaker was one of the many notable omissions from Southgate’s squad which includes the likes of Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Maddison and Harry Maguire.
Grealish played an important role in Man City’s recent Premier League title defence but missed a lot of key games for them because of injuries. Still, his recent omission from England’s squad for the UEFA Euro 2024 would come as a surprise to many fans.
When quizzed about Grealish’s exclusion, Southgate responded by saying,
“They’re calls we’ve gone over and over and over as a group of staff to try to be fair and to try to use the right rationale.
“We back our decisions but we recognise we could have gone a different route. The boys are big characters, fabulous team-mates and great boys to work with.
“It’s sad to have to deliver that news to them.”
Following Man City’s recent FA Cup final defeat at the hands of Manchester United, Pep Guardiola admitted that Grealish was not playing at a high level and said,
“He’s struggled this season.”
Grealish is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027. However, his recent injury concerns and lack of form have put his long-term future at Man City in doubt. Still, there is no denying that Grealish can be a match-winner for his team on his day.
The 28-year-old registered three goals and picked up three assists in 36 appearances for the Mancunian outfit last season in all competitions. It remains to be seen whether Grealish can come back stronger and improve on his offensive contributions for Man City next season.
