Manchester City are looking to sign a fresh goalkeeper amid the uncertainty over the future of Ederson and Stefan Ortega. According to Christian Falk, Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer has emerged as one of the possible targets for the Premier League club.
Michael Zetterer’s journey
Michael Zetterer signed for Werder Bremen in the winter of 2015 from SpVgg Unterhaching. Since then, he has been associated with the former club. He wasn’t a first-choice goalkeeper and had to wait to get opportunities to prove himself.
Over the years, Zetterer’s solid performances earned a prominent role in the side. He managed to keep six clean sheets in 27 games this season and conceded 37 goals.
Will Michael Zetterer fit well at City?
Manchester City have to look for alternative goalkeeping options as the future of both Ederson and Stefan Ortega is uncertain for next season. While Ederson has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Ortega wouldn’t mind leaving the club to become a first-choice somewhere else.
As long as Ederson is present at the Etihad Stadium, it is unlikely that Ortega would be the primary choice. Hence, he recently hinted that a summer move could be on the cards. Luckily, the Citizens won’t lose both of their quality goalkeepers in a single window.
Whoever leaves, the English club will have to bring in a fresh goalkeeper. Michael Zetterer has emerged as a top candidate for the crucial role as he is an experienced campaigner. He has good reflexes and strong hands to block both close and long-range shots.
The 28-year-old is also comfortable and accurate with his passes, which is an essential feature of Pep Guardiola‘s game plan. Zetterer is also well equipped to play in high-intensity matches as he doesn’t lose concentration throughout.
Signing the Bundesliga goalkeeper shouldn’t be a problem for Man City. They have all the funds and exciting projects to lure the player away this summer.
