In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Manchester City have held talks to land Red Bull Leipzig ace Dani Olmo this summer. It has been stated that Pep Guardiola’s side are eager to get a deal done for the Spanish playmaker later this year.
Olmo’s Impressive Form In German Football
Olmo had a fruitful campaign in Germany recently as he managed to produce a series of impressive displays for Leipzig in the final third. The 26-year-old found the back of the net eight times and registered five assists in 25 matches for the German club last season across various competitions.
The Terrassa-born talent was a reliable presence in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He was even excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.6% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Olmo is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Man City to sign him on a cut-price deal.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Recruit Olmo?
Olmo can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and has got the vision to set up a few promising chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well but can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team.
The Spaniard is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if told to do so by his manager. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola‘s squad ahead of the new campaign.
At 26, Olmo has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Mancunian giants to consider later this year. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
With all things considered, Man City should focus on recruiting Olmo as he could help them compete for even more major trophies in the coming seasons.
