Lionel Messi has revealed the name of the only sports athlete he wants to take a picture with in a recent interview. The 36-year-old is set to represent his nation Argentina in the Copa America which is set to kick off on June 20 in the United States of America.
Argentina would look to defend their crown as they lock horns with Canada in the opening match of the prestigious tournament which will be held across 14 cities over four weeks.
Argentina are one of the favourites to win the competition. Ahead of the Copa America, Messi was speaking to the media and disclosed the name of the only sports athlete he wants to take a picture with.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, the Argentine wing wizard said,
“From the sports world, I would like to have a photo with Jordan – meet him and have a photo with him.”
Michael Jordan is considered by many as the greatest of all time in his sport. The former National Basketball League star has won six championships during his time with the Chicago Bulls. He is also unbeaten in the NBA finals as he has won all six of his finals series and was declared the MVP each time.
Jordan has also won two Olympic gold medals with the United States Men’s Basketball team.
Similarly, Messi has tasted a lot of major honours throughout his playing career. He has ten La Liga trophies, four Champions Leagues and a record eight Ballon d’Or titles to his name.
At the international level, Messi has lifted the Copa America in 2020 and the World Cup in 2022 with Argentina. He will now look to lead his country to another Copa America win when the tournament gets underway later this month.
Messi has previously expressed his admiration for other basketball stars like Steph Curry and LeBron James, who he had the pleasure of meeting at an Inter Miami match last July.
