In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Lille defender Leny Yoro wants to join Real Madrid this summer. It has been claimed that the French centre-back is eager to seal a move to the Madrid club but a deal is yet to be finalised.
Yoro’s Impressive Rise In Ligue 1
Yoro had a decent campaign at the French club as he put in a string of impressive performances at the centre of their backline. The 18-year-old scored three goals in 44 matches for Lille last season in all competitions.
The talented teenager gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in the Ligue 1. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 92.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lille will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap this summer.
What Will Yoro Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Yoro is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The French defender can even use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth in Spain if Real Madrid can devise a way to bring him on board this summer.
We can expect Yoro to add more bite and steel to Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Madrid club next season. The French youngster has what it takes to serve as an ideal, long-term replacement for Nacho at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
At 18, Yoro has the potential to be a future star in Spanish football. Thus, Ancelotti would be wise to go all out to sign him this summer.
