Jack Grealish has been given a new reason why he was excluded from England’s Euro 2024 squad. The English wide player was a surprise omission from Gareth Southgate‘s 26-man squad for the upcoming Euros. The prestigious tournament is set to kick off in Germany soon with England named one of the favorites to lift the famous trophy.
Grealish has earned 36 caps for the Three Lions and was a part of their squad in Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup. However, Southgate has decided to drop him for this tournament.
Former England defender Wes Brown has now revealed a new reason why Grealish was excluded from England’s squad for Euro 2024.
In a recent interview with Reach’s Euro Thrash podcast, Brown said,
“He (Grealish) will be disappointed, but I do think it’s down to his club. He hasn’t started as many games as he would have liked to.”
Brown went on to add,
“I just feel the manager’s gone with pace. I think if you look at Anthony Gordon in that Iceland game, you know he brings this attacking pace. Straight out fast breaks, he’s in,” Brown added.
“Grealish plays a little bit differently. We know he likes to get on the ball early and then do his thing.
“You always want to prove to the manager and to everyone that the selection is wrong.
“And you do start the next season quicker and think ‘I’m going to show you what I’m about, I should have been selected or I’m going to be selected next time because I’m going to put everything into it’.”
Grealish struggled to be consistent for Manchester City last season despite lifting the Premier League title with them earlier this summer. The English talent ended the campaign with three goals and three assists to his name after making 36 appearances for the Mancunian club across all competitions.
Despite his underwhelming season, Grealish’s exclusion has come as a shock to many football fans.
