In a recent report, talkSPORT claimed that Everton are hoping to sign Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof this summer. It has been stated that the Toffees are eager to snap the Swedish talent up in this transfer window.
Lindelof’s Decent Form At Manchester United
Lindelof had a solid campaign at Old Trafford recently as he managed to put in a run of dominant displays at the heart of the Man United backline. The Swedish defensive ace made 28 appearances for the Red Devils last season, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in various competitions.
The 29-year-old was a decent contributor on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the back after completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Lindelof is under contract at the Mancunian club until the end of next season which could open the door for the Toffees to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
Should Everton Get Lindelof On Board This Summer?
Lindelof is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can play his way out from the back.
However, the Swedish talent is not a guaranteed starter at Old Trafford and could benefit from a change of scenery this summer in search of greener pastures. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s defence.
At 29, Lindelof is still playing in his prime and would be a good, short-term signing for the Merseyside club to pull off this summer. Therefore, Everton should go all out to get him on board before the end of this transfer window.
Lindelof already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Goodison Park. Plus, he would help the Merseyside outfit cope with fixture congestion better over the next few years. Thus, Dyche would be wise to recruit Lindelof this off-season.
