In a recent report, L’Equipe claimed that Everton are facing tough competition for Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh this summer. It has been mentioned that the Toffees would have to compete with Brighton and Hove Albion and Olympique Lyonnais in pursuit of the Gambian starlet in this transfer window.
Minteh’s Decent Loan Spell In Dutch Football
Minteh had an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord recently as he was responsible for putting in a run of eye-catching displays for them in the opposition half. The 19-year-old scored 11 times and earned six assists in 37 matches for the Dutch outfit last season across all competitions.
The Gambian talent has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after completing 69.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Newcastle United will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to snap him up on the cheap later this year.
Everton Are Facing Tough Competition For Minteh: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Minteh excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and has got the eye to engineer some inviting chances for others around him in the final third. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The Gambian sensation is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-winger or as a play in the number ten position if told to do so. We can expect to add more goals to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline.
Minteh is good enough to play an important role in the Merseyside club‘s squad next season. At 19, he is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future. Therefore, the Toffees would be wise to try everything they can to lure him to Goodison Park before the end of this summer transfer window.
