According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are still keen on signing Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion in the summer transfer window. The former club are bullish on the player’s talent and want to bolster their attacking unit with his addition.
Samu Omorodion’s journey so far
Atletico Madrid signed Samu Omorodion from Granada last summer on a five-year deal. They immediately loaned him out to Alaves till the end of the season. The move was made to allow the player to get game time and keep developing his game.
Omorodion showcased good displays with Alaves in this term, where he ended up scoring nine goals and assisting once in 36 games. He averaged 1.9 shots, 0.5 key passes, and 0.6 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish forward plays as a striker and gives a tough time to the defender. He is a tough guy to handle because of his physicality and strength. Omorodian is clinical with his finishes around the penalty box and is also effective at winning aerial duels.
Whom will Chelsea sign as their new striker?
Chelsea are assessing their options after Atletico Madrid rejected their bid of €40 million for Samu Omorodion. The Spanish outfit rates the striker, who has a release clause of around €80 million on his contract, much higher.
The Blues are in the market in search of a new forward as they were over dependent upon Nicolas Jackson to score goals. They were heavily linked to Victor Osimhen but his €120m release clause seems impossible to trigger without a significant sale.
Chelsea were considering a move for Dominic Solanke but felt his £65m release clause was a bit too high. The club recently found a cheaper alternative in the form of Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran. However, the deal is yet to be materialized. It will be interesting to see who the Blues will sign to compete with Jackson ahead of next campaign.
