According to a report by Daily Mail, Chelsea are keen on signing Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window. The former club have even submitted an enquiry over the possible move of the player ahead of next season.
Alexander Isak is enjoying his time in the Premier League
Alexander Isak arrived at Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He had a good start at his new home but was forced to miss out on many games due to injury. After regaining fitness, he returned to his impressive performances.
Even this season, Isak reached his top form and did a terrific job for the English side. He netted 25 goals and provided two assists in 40 games this term. He averaged 2.4 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 1.2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Swedish is a quality striker who is excellent with his finishing around the box. He makes good runs behind the defenders and exploits spaces. He also drops to midfield to do link-up plays or receive the ball to dribble his way out.
An upgrade of Nicolas Jackson?
Chelsea’s interest in Alexander Isak is understandable as they are on the lookout for a new striker. They have Nicolas Jackson in their ranks, who did decent enough last season. But the management understands that the latter still needs time to enhance his game as he missed clear chances.
Hence, to secure more goals up front, the Blues are keen on signing an upgrade of Jackson. That requirement can be fulfilled by Isak to a great extent. The Swedish has already proven his abilities in the English league and has been red red-hot form recently.
The 24-year-old’s finishing and link-up plays will help Chelsea in the offensive section. However, Newcastle United will surely demand a premium fee to sanction the move. It will be interesting to see how this chapter unfolds in the coming months.
