According to Jeunes Footeux, Chelsea are keen on signing Lyon‘s emerging star Rayan Cherki in the summer transfer window. However, they are losing the race to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to get his signature as per the latest reports.
Who is Rayan Cherki?
Rayan Cherki is a Lyon academy product and is considered one of their best finds ever. He made it into the senior team for the first time in the winter of 2020. Since then, he has taken huge strides in his career, impressing everyone with his on-field displays.
Cherki continued his progress this season too, where he featured in 39 games. He managed to score three goals and provide nine assists in the process. He averaged 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes, and 2.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The French attacker is a versatile option who can fit on either wings or also as an attacking midfielder. He has creative instincts helped by his dribbling and passing accuracy. However, he still needs to improve his finishing in the final third.
Will Chelsea be able to sign Rayan Cherki?
Chelsea need to reinforce their offensive line to secure more goals next season and fight for titles. The signing of Rayan Cherki could be a good move as he will bring his creativity in the final third. Though he might not become a starter, he could be a super sub.
Should the 22-year-old continue to improve his game under proper guidance and more game-time, he can be a long-term investment. However, the Blues are reportedly losing the race to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). It has been learnt that the player is keen on joining the French outfit.
As the youngster has 12 months left on his contract, Lyon doesn’t want to risk him losing for free next season. Hence, they are willing to sanction his move for just £15 million. It remains up to the English club if they can still convince the player and then struct a deal or not.
