According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea are in the race to sign Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman in the summer transfer window. The Premier League club believes the player’s addition will strengthen their offensive unit for next season.
Ademola Lookman is performing well
Ademola Lookman represented Charlton Athletic before moving to Everton. Failed to establish there, he made a switch to RB Leipzig in 2019, which didn’t turn out to be a good one too. However, things changed after he joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022.
Lookman has climbed up the ladders over the past two seasons and is a reliable name for the Italian club. He netted 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 games this season. He averaged 2 shots, 1.6 key passes, and 1.2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Nigerian attacker is a modern-day player, who excels in multiple areas. He is not only clinical with his finishing but also creates handy chances for his teammates. He is also capable of scoring goals from long-range and set pieces.
Chelsae are in need of a winger
Chelsea’s alleged interest in Ademola Lookman is understandable. The likes of Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk have been inconsistent with their performances. Hence, the club are eyeing to strengthen the wide areas ahead of next season.
The Blues were heavily linked to Michael Olise but they lost the race to Bayern Munich. Hence, they have turned their focus towards Lookman, who could be a good option too. As the player has high qualities, his creativity in the final third will help the side score more goals.
The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers and can serve the club for a good number of years. Reportedly, Atalanta want €60 million to sanction the move. Chelsea are ready to match the offer but they need to be quick as rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the talented player.
