According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in the final stages of talks with Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo. The Premier League club want to sign the player in the summer to bolster their backline unit ahead of next season.
Tosin Adarabioyo has decent numbers
Tosin Adarabioyo started his career with Manchester City but failed to establish himself there. After multiple loan spells, he finally signed for Fulham in the summer of 2020. Since then, he has been associated with the latter club.
Adarabioyo is an integral part of the current setup and is a solid performer. He featured in 25 games this season, netting twice. He averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, and 4.5 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The 26-year-old has a good frame and a decent pace. He likes to work on his positioning to defuse the threats. However, he often takes the route of clearance to keep things tight at the backline. With good concentration and aerial domination, the centre-back is a quality player.
Tosin Adarabioyo will come for free
Chelsea are in desperate need to strengthen their backline as Thiago Silva has left the club. The Brazilian defender was a key player for many years and hence, filling his boots won’t be an easy task for anyone.
However, the arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo will surely help to an extent. The youngster is a proven campaigner and will add a lot of value to the unit. If he manages to make a positive impact, he could be a long-term solution for the Blues.
Additionally, the fact that Adarabioyo will come for free is a masterstroke. Getting a player of his quality as a free agent is surely a good move. Especially when Chelsea are bound to comply with financial regulations and cannot commit to overspend on one name. They still have a few areas to fix if they wish to fight for top trophies next season.
