Chelsea recently took a major step as they announced Enzo Maresca as their new manager for upcoming seasons. However, they are not done yet as the club are eyeing a summer move for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, according to GIVEMESPORT.
Stefan Ortega’s impressive displays this season
After a long stint in German clubs, Stefan Ortega signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer. However, he came into the limelight recently for his impressive performances this season in the absence of Ederson.
Ortega showed great skills and temperament on the field under pressure. He showed that he has what it takes to be a primary stopper for a top-tier club. He featured in 20 games and managed to keep 8 clean sheets while conceding only 20 goals.
The German stopper has crazy reflexes and strong hands to block both close and long-range shots. He is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, which allows the team to build plays from the back. No wonder why there are many clubs interested in signing him.
Will Chelsea make an official move?
Chelsea signed two goalkeepers in the form of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer while they loaned Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid. However, it seems like the new boss Enzo Maresca isn’t impressed with any of them and wants to bring in a new name.
The Blues are impressed with Stefan Ortega’s performances and are keen on making a move in the summer. From the player’s point of view, the 31-year-old has already expressed his will to be a first-choice goalkeeper. He even hinted at making a switch if needed.
Hence, Chelsea have a good chance of getting his signature if they are able to negotiate with Manchester City. The player has one year left on his contract, which might tempt the latter club to offload him to generate some cash.
