According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed to a £19 million deal with Aston Villa to sign Omari Kellyman ahead of next season. The former club will soon conduct the medicals of the player at the Stamford Bridge.
Who is Omari Kellyman?
After spending 10 years at Derby County, Omari Kellyman signed for Aston Villa in the winter of 2022. His impressive glimpses at the youth level earned him a chance in the senior side. However, he didn’t get enough opportunities due to high competition.
Kellyman is an intelligent forward who reads the game very well. He is versatile enough to play on the flanks or in the middle of the attacking line. He is skilful on the ball and does well under pressure. He makes good runs and is also a threat in aerial battles.
The English youngster got only 58 minutes in the senior competition this season. Overall, he featured in 20 games, netting eight goals and providing an assist. His early progress tempted Chelsea to sign him on a six-year contract starting next season.
£19 on Omari Kellyman?
Chelsea’s pursuit of Omari Kellyman comes as a surprise to many as the club weren’t linked to the player. Spending £19 on a player who hasn’t played enough games at the senior level and is yet to prove himself is a brave choice.
Certainly, the Blues are confident in the 19-year-old’s abilities. Kellyman will join the club but is unlikely to get into the senior team. He will most probably loaned out to Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg so that he can develop his game further.
On the other hand, the Blues will continue their efforts to sign a new striker in the summer. They have been heavily linked to Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran while Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion also remains a firm choice despite the Spanish club rejecting the first bid.
