In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona are showing interest in Leicester City defender Wout Faes this summer. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Belgian talent this off-season.
Faes’ Impressive Form In The EFL Championship
Faes had a solid campaign at the East Midlands club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 26-year-old made 46 appearances for Leicester last season, netting two goals on all fronts.
The Belgian sensation has been a dominant presence inside his half based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 90% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the King Power Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Barcelona to arrange a cut-price move for him later this year.
Is Faes A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?
Faes is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.87m, the Belgian international can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in top-flight football.
We can expect Faes to add more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons.
At 26, Faes is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent choice for Barca to consider in this summer transfer window. He could help the Catalan club compete for some major trophies over the next few years. With all things considered, Flick would be wise to go all out to bring Faes to the Nou Camp later this summer.
