In a recent report, Liverpool Echo stated that Barcelona are leading the race for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are the front-runners in the chase to acquire the services of the Colombian wide player this summer.
Diaz’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season
Diaz enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Merseyside club as he put in a series of eye-catching displays on the left side of their attack. The 27-year-old registered 13 goals and picked up five assists in 51 matches for the Reds last season across all fronts.
The Colombia international has proven himself to be a consistent performer on the left flank by averaging 2.5 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball accurately in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 85.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Diaz’s current contract at Anfield will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to land him on the cheap later this year.
What Will Diaz Bring To Barcelona?
Diaz is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the left flank. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The Colombia international is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play on the right wing if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Barcelona‘s attack. Diaz is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp next season.
At 27, the South American sensation is playing the best football of his playing career, so he would be a great addition to the Catalan club’s squad this summer. However, he is on an expiring contract which would make it tough for Barca to arrange a cut-price move for him in the summer transfer period.
Diaz has what it takes to help Barcelona challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, it makes sense for the Catalan giants to go all out to bring him on board soon.
