In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Aston Villa are keen on recruiting Tottenham Hotspur ace Giovani Lo Celso. Romano said,
“There is interest also from other clubs around Europe, including Villa, because Unai Emery knows the player so well.
“But at the moment, the focus of Villa in that position is on Ross Barkley, who is expected to join the club from Luton Town, and then we will see if they will decide to enter into conversations for Lo Celso. At the moment, [there’s] still nothing advanced.”
Lo Celso’s Limited Role In North London
Lo Celso played a sporadic role for the North London club last season when he struggled to earn regular first-team starts for them in the Premier League. The Argentine sensation played in 24 matches for Spurs in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and grabbing two assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The 28-year-old has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 1.0 tackles, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 91.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Get Lo Celso On Board?
Lo Celso is a technically gifted footballer who can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can create the odd chance for others around him in the final third.
The Argentine sensation primarily plays in the number ten position but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s match-day squad.
At 28, Lo Celso has already entered his prime and would be a great acquisition for the Villans this summer. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at Villa Park. With all things considered, Emery should go all out to get him on board soon.
